Finding Your First Families Workshop
DEADLINE NEARS FOR FIRST FAMILIES PROJECT
August 1 is the deadline to submit applications to the “First Families of Floyd, Clark, and Harrison Counties Legacy Project.” Applicants who verify direct descent from pioneers living in the tri-county area before 1841 will receive First Families certificates and pins and be honored guests at the “Hoosier History and Heritage Celebration” in October. An initiative of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society (SIGS), the “First Families Project” honors the memory and spirit of the region’s early settlers, identifies their descendants, and preserves those families’ histories.
A “Finding Your First Families” workshop will be held in the Indiana History Room of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library on June 21 at 6 PM. SIGS members and an Indiana History Room genealogist will explain how to research and apply for First Families membership. Interested descendants should bring relevant genealogical information to the workshop.
Project applications are online at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~insigs/FF_2014/ffproject.htm For more information, please contact Donna Kepley Foster at 812-923-3492.
